Cottey's new fine arts building gets last brick

Cottey College hosted a ceremonial placing of the last brick on the wall facing Cherry Street in Nevada Friday afternoon for the new Judy and Glenn Rogers Fine Arts Building.

The building was named after Judy, who retired as Cottey's 11th president, and her husband Glenn, for their years of service to the college.

Dr. Jann Weitzel, Cottey's 12th president who just began her duties June 15, placed the last brick on Cottey's work-in-progress building.

Mary Haggans, special assistant to the president and who has been Cottey's project manager for the construction of the building, placed the next-to-last brick.

Neal Swarnes, Cottey's director of the physical plant, was also on hand to help with the brick presentation and placing.

A small crowd of college, city and community officials, and various representatives from JE Dunn, the general contractor for the building, braved the muggy weather following the day's earlier rainfall.

Both interior and exterior work on the building will continue through the summer, with a dedication set for Saturday, Sept. 26, at 10 a.m.
