Monday evening Walker city clerk Linda Longstreth submitted her resignation minutes prior to the board of alderman meeting.

"Well, things have changed. I would like to call an emergency executive meeting as of now," mayor Phil Martin said after the board had cleared away several house keeping items on the agenda.

In her resignation, Longstreth listed health as the reason for her departure.

On Wednesday, Mayor Phil Martin said during the executive session following Monday's meeting, the board appointed Susan Thompson as temporary city clerk.

In other business:

* Martin said there was a "reasonably good turnout for Fun Day." The cake walk made $124, volleyball made $100 profit, horseshoes made a $25 profit, the baby contest lost $18, the talent show lost $18, the gold ball toss made $19, the raffle made $33, the bounce house lost $55, $100 was paid to the DJ, and $94.25 was spent on advertising. The event suffered a net loss of $143.25.

* City maintenance employee William Jeffery said finding replacement 8-foot fluorescent bulbs is becoming more difficult. The community room at city hall needs several new bulbs. Jeffery said 8-foot fluorescent bulbs are being phased out in favor of LED bulbs, and suggested bulbs from the city barn could be moved to the community room as a temporary solution. "We're not rich," Martin said as he directed Jeffery to move the bulbs over from the city barn.

* Alderman Mike Newman suggested and the rest of the board members agreed to abandon the city's website after the contract expired.

* Thompson said holes were developing under the swing set and asked if gravel could be added or pushed back into the holes. Martin said the city's insurance company requires pea gravel on the playground and instructed Jeffery to check on the cost of filling the holes.

* Replying to alderman Phil Thompson's question on equipment, Jeffery said the bearings on the mower deck needed to be replaced. "That's number one on your list, along with the pea gravel," Martin said.

* The board voted unanimously to accept the bid from MFA Oil and Propane to provide propane to the city at a rate of $1.05 per gallon.

* The board voted unanimously to accept a bid from MFA Oil and Propane for diesel and gasoline at 8 cents over the daily market per gallon price plus 3 cents per gallon for additives. The two bids from MFA Oil and Propane were the only ones received by the city. "They're local and they'll take care of us," Mike Newman said.
